Essence of LPG Safety Guidelines

The guidelines by WLPG Association serve as a voluntary framework for LP Gas companies and associations where there are no, or weak,
regulations.

They will also provide an operating framework where laws and regulations do exist, but are weakly, arbitrarily, or inequitably enforced.

While the LP Gas industry accepts its responsibilities for operating its business in conformity with applicable laws, regulations

and standards, there are some issues over which only government has authority to enforce.

Government should ensure issues and recommendations proffered by LPGSAZ are considered in their own regulations. It is our considered view that Government should support the industry’s efforts for self-regulation.

Some Facts About LPG

LP Gas consists mainly of propane and butane, which are gases at atmospheric temperature a good pressure.

When subjected to modest pressure of refrigeration, these gases liquefy making it possible to transport and store LP Gas as a liquid, yet used as a gas.

This requires pressurised cylinders and containers, the care and handling of which requires prioritisation of safety and diligent handling.
